Beijing - Saba:
China on Saturday said it will impose additional customs duties on some products imported from Canada based on the ruling of an investigation into anti-discrimination.
China's Xinhua News Agency reported that from March 20, additional tariffs of 100 percent will be imposed on rapeseed oil, oil cake and peas imported from Canada, while aquatic products will be subject to additional tariffs of 25 percent.
The agency noted that the decision comes after China's anti-discrimination investigation, which found that Canada's restrictive measures against some Chinese products disrupted the normal trade order and harmed the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
It is noteworthy that at the end of August 2024, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that his country would impose high tariffs on electric cars at 100 percent from October 1, and on aluminum and steel products at 25 percent from October 15.
In response to these measures, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce launched investigations on September 26 to determine whether these measures constitute discrimination against China.
