Sana'a - Saba:
The Cancer Control Fund launched on Tuesday the eighth national campaign in the capital Sana'a aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of smoking under the slogan "Don't kill yourself."
Running from December 31, 2024, to January 30, 2025, the campaign seeks to educate the public on the harmful effects of smoking, which can lead to various cancers, including oral and lung cancer, as well as heart disease, arteriosclerosis, and liver cirrhosis.
Dr. Abdulsalam al-Madani, Chairman of the Cancer Control Fund, emphasized that scientific research unanimously confirms the health risks of smoking, both for smokers and those exposed to secondhand smoke.
He highlighted that tobacco products contain toxic substances like arsenic, beryllium, and cadmium, as well as additives in electronic hookahs and molasses.
Dr. al-Madani also addressed misconceptions about smoking and cancer, stressing that while some smokers may not develop cancer, the risk remains, as individual immunity varies.
The campaign aims to increase public awareness and encourage the community to avoid smoking as a preventive measure. Dr. al-Madani urged everyone to recognize the importance of these awareness efforts in protecting public health and reducing the incidence of smoking-related diseases.
He called for collective action from all sectors to combat smoking and mitigate its harmful effects on society's health and the national healthcare system.
