Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi emphasized on Saturday that protecting Yemen's antiquities and combating their smuggling is a national responsibility requiring the collective efforts of central and local authorities, as well as the communities in archaeological areas.
During a meeting with the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Ali al-Yafei, and Chairman of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums Ibad al-Hayal al-Rahawi described antiquities as a vital part of the nation's identity and history, stressing that smuggling them is a major crime.
The meeting focused on strategies to safeguard Yemen's archaeological sites and combat antiquity smuggling, involving collaboration with security forces and local authorities.
Dr. al-Yafei also outlined two key projects: the creation of an archaeological registry for sites across the country and the establishment of an archaeological reserve in Jawf province.
The Prime Minister directed the Minister to present these projects to the Council of Ministers for further discussion and action.
