Sana'a - Saba:
The world celebrates the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which this year also marks the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Over the course of 76 years, the primary ambition of the declaration has been to spread equality, fundamental freedoms and justice and instill them in societies. The declaration has also enshrined the rights of all human beings and formed a global blueprint for international, national and local laws and policies and a solid foundation for the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.
In 1948, the United Nations designated December 10 of each year as Human Rights Day, which later became an annual commemoration. At that time, only a few months had passed since the Nakba that befell the Palestinians.
But after 76 years, a high percentage of Palestinians still do not receive the minimum of their natural rights, which were recognized by the United Nations in the Declaration of the Charter of Human Rights. The usurping Zionist entity, which completed its control over all of historical Palestine in 1967, is today preventing the Palestinians from their natural rights, which have almost been taken away from them.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is scheduled to host many events and activities around the world, in celebration of Human Rights Day and the Human Rights 76 Initiative, and in commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including a high-level event to be held in Geneva on December 11 and 12.
Here, we must recall on this day, “Human Rights Day,” the war crimes, genocide, and ethnic cleansing committed by the Zionist enemy against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2003, and the persistence of its grave violations against Palestinian citizens in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, to the point of complete squandering of human rights.
This anniversary symbolizes the day on which the General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, which coincides with the grave violations that The occupation is committing it against the sons of the Palestinian people.
In reality, not a day goes by for the Palestinians without documenting violations against them, whether by killing, arrest, torture, demolition, or seizure of property. The occupation is adopting collective punishment against the Palestinians in the West Bank, by setting up more than 800 permanent military checkpoints (not including sudden checkpoints).
The barriers are of various shapes and types, including stone and earthen barriers, in addition to about 150 military iron gates that close Palestinian residential areas, trap them behind them, and paralyze their movement. This suffering has doubled after the war on the Gaza Strip, as the barriers have turned into prisons and means of harassing, oppressing, and taking revenge on Palestinian citizens.
One of the basic rights of the Palestinians that the Zionist enemy works to violate on a daily basis is the right to freedom, as daily arrests have increased after October 7, 2023, as the total number of arrests in the West Bank has reached more than (12) thousand arrests, which included all segments of Palestinian society, in addition to the arrest of dozens of Palestinian workers and thousands from Gaza. Until now, it is not possible to accurately identify all of their numbers and identities, as the crime of enforced disappearance continues to be carried out against them.
On December 10, UNRWA joins the United Nations family in celebrating International Human Rights Day, which coincides with the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was declared in 1948.
For over 60 years, UNRWA has worked to protect the rights of Palestine refugees – their right to knowledge, their right to health, and their right to housing.
By ensuring that they are able to access the schools, clinics, and assistance they need, UNRWA seeks to help Palestine refugees enjoy their human rights to the fullest extent possible.
That is why the Zionist entity targets the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as part of a plan to erase the existence and history of the Palestinian people and to systematically destroy the Palestinian people, their institutions, their educational system, and their history.
It is noteworthy that in 1949, UNRWA was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, and was mandated to provide assistance and protection to Palestine refugees in its five areas of operation: Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.
