Dr. Ali Saif, Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, alongside his deputy Adel Bader and First Undersecretary of Hodeida province Ahmed al-Bishri, inaugurated three vital water projects on Tuesday in the districts of al-Marawe'ah, Bajil, and al-Mansouriyah in Hodeida province.
The projects included the installation of a solar-powered system to operate 12 water wells in al-Qatee field in al-Marawe'ah district, valued at $665,000 and funded by UNICEF. Additionally, the team launched the drilling of three productive water wells in Bajil district and one in al-Mansouriyah, with a combined cost of approximately 144 million Yemeni Y.R , funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). They also inaugurated a solar-powered system for Well No. 10 in Bajil, valued at $124,521, also funded by UNOPS.
During the inauguration, the Minister, his deputy, and al-Bishri were briefed by local officials, including Abdulrahman Ishaq, director of the local water institution, who provided details about al-Qatee project, which will produce 20,000 cubic meters of water per hour. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance water availability for the region and surrounding areas.
The officials also received updates from Mohammed al-Shami, director of the urban cities project, and Abdulrahman al-Hasani, head of Bajil Water Institution, who explained the scope of Bajil and al-Mansouriyah projects, which are expected to produce 25,000 cubic meters of water per second.
Dr. Saif highlighted the importance of these projects in improving water services in some of the most underserved areas of Hodeida\, noting that the initiatives will help alleviate the suffering of local residents. He commended the efforts made to implement the projects under challenging conditions.
Deputy Minister Bader emphasized that these projects reflect the ongoing commitment of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council to improving water and sanitation services across Yemen, with a particular focus on Hodeida.
Al-Bishri, for his part, expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s continued support and its role in the government’s service-oriented initiatives, which align with the broader objectives of the Government of Change and Construction.
