MOSCOW September 08. 2024 (Saba) - The recent US sanctions on Russian journalists have prompted a strong reaction from Moscow.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the sanctions as a form of hybrid warfare aimed at undermining Russian media and pressuring journalists.
Zakharova claimed that the US is using these measures under the guise of addressing alleged Russian interference in American elections.
The sanctions, imposed by the US Treasury Department, target key figures at Russia's RT TV channel, including editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan and several senior staff members.
The US has alleged that these individuals are involved in hostile activities related to the US presidential elections, though these claims have been denied by Russian authorities.
Zakharova emphasized that Russia will respond firmly to these measures, framing them as part of a broader attempt to stifle Russian media outlets and influence their operations.
