SANA'A August 31. 2024 (Saba) - The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Ali Al-Yafei, inspected on Saturday the work progress at the House of Manuscripts in the historic city of Sana'a.

Minister Al-Yafei, along with a number of the ministry's leaders, was briefed on the conditions of the Manuscripts House and the historical, cultural, intellectual and cognitive heritage of Yemen through a large collection of rare, unique and diverse Qur'anic parchments, manuscripts and historical books in various humanities, applied and religious sciences.

He listened to explanations from officials and those in charge of the House and the sector, regarding the House's activity in preserving this type of priceless treasures, and the most prominent issues facing it, in addition to the urgent projects to start implementing to restore and document precious manuscripts of historical and strategic value for Yemen and the civilizational, intellectual and cognitive heritage of humanity in general.

The Culture and Tourism Minister directed those in charge of the House and the sector to submit a report on the most urgent and special projects to advance the status of Yemeni manuscripts and improve the level of work and performance in the House to include them in the work plan for the next phase and submit them for discussion in the Council of Ministers, including the national catalog of manuscripts, restoration of manuscripts in the House library, electronic , digital documentation , archiving, photocatalogs and digital photography of manuscripts to preserve assets, restoration of the Ruqoq library, and modernization of the House's equipment.

He explained that the most important projects include restoring and collecting Yemeni manuscripts in international libraries, providing restoration and maintenance materials, providing protection and risk control requirements, collecting Yemeni manuscripts under one roof and standardizing the national number of manuscripts.

The Culture and Tourism Minister pointed out that manuscripts will receive special attention, as they are one of the priorities of the next stage, as they are a real national and strategic wealth for Yemen and the repository of its identity and its cultural, intellectual, cognitive and faith balance.

He pointed out that the interest in manuscripts should go beyond the issue of introducing people to their history , culture, and transferring an important part of the origins , stages of development of their Arab , Islamic civilizational , cognitive balance to them, and benefiting from it , relying on it in restoring , continuing the process of construction , modernization , achieving the desired renaissance in various sciences and knowledge.

The Minister toured the departments and sections of the House and learned from the staff about the nature of work in all the various departments of the House, especially the restoration, maintenance, cataloging , documentation of manuscripts and other tasks undertaken by the House.
