TAIZ August 31. 2024 (Saba) - A meeting held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Taiz Undersecretary for Development and Services Affairs Abdul Wasa Al-Shamsi discussed mechanisms for activating contract farming units, volunteerism, and community initiatives for multi-purpose agricultural cooperative societies in the directorates.
The meeting, which included the Executive Director of the Agricultural Cooperative Union branch in the governorate, Amer Al-Ahdal, the two members of the development team in the governorate, the Director General of Agriculture and Irrigation, Eng. Abdullah Al-Janadi, the coordinator of Bunyan Salem Al-Ahdal, touched on the mechanism of counting major farmers in the directorates, creating a database of crops that characterize each directorate, and preparing a field landing program to prepare for the implementation of contract agriculture and introducing its importance in supporting the national economy and achieving self-sufficiency in basic crops.
The meeting approved the establishment and activation of contract farming units, volunteering and community initiatives in the associations, and raising the obstacles faced by agricultural cooperative societies to support in solving them.
The meeting recommended the need to count agricultural crops and wells and raise statistics for seasonal agricultural crops, especially for cereals (maize and legumes) for large farmers at the district level.
The meeting stressed the activation of the role of agricultural development media and enhancing awareness of the importance of cooperative work, contract agriculture, community and voluntary initiatives in the governorate's directorates, as well as holding awareness workshops for media professionals with the development aspect and community initiatives.
