BRUSSELS August 29. 2024 (Saba) - The European Union on Thursday called for an "immediate" humanitarian truce to allow for all children in the Gaza Strip to be vaccinated against polio.
According to AFP, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said: "It is worrying that polio has been detected and the first confirmed case has been recorded."
Borrell noted that the spread of the epidemic must be avoided among a population weakened by ten months of war, displacement, malnutrition, lack of basic health services and dire sanitary conditions.
For months, the United Nations and aid organizations have been concerned about the health situation in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Zionist aggression, where stagnant water, mountains of rubble, garbage, exhausting summer heat and mixing are fertile ground for the spread of epidemics.
