BEREA August 28. 2024 (Saba) - Hospitals should serve as a safe shelter to protect human life, spokesman for the ICRC said on Wednesday, as the "need for treatment intensifies in fighting zones."

The life of a patient, doctor, rescuer or ambulance driver should not risk any threat while trying to save the life of others, Mohamed Hamiel added in remarks to WAFA news agency, noting that "hospitals enjoy special protection under int'l human law."

Orders to evacuate hospitals are hard, especially for patients who are in need for medication, and harder for those unable to move, he said, calling for this matter to be considered in any military acts.
