MADRID August 16. 2024 (Saba) - The Spanish Ministry of Health announced the registration of 8,104 cases of monkeypox (Mpox) since the beginning of the outbreak of the virus in the country in 2022, indicating that it is a record number and the largest number of cases among European countries.
The European news agency Europa Press quoted the ministry as saying in a statement last night: Spain recorded a record number of monkeypox infections in Europe, with 8,104 cases, followed by France with 4,272 cases, then Britain with 3,866 cases, explaining that the majority of cases in Spain were recorded in the cities of Madrid and Catalonia.
Mpox is an infectious disease caused by a virus transmitted to humans through infected animals, and is also transmitted between humans through direct physical contact, and causes high fever, muscle pain and a rash.
