Iran delegate in Geneva: Zionist institutions must be classified as terrorist

GENEVA August 14. 2024 (Saba) - The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Ali Bahraini, highlighted the need to classify the institutions of the Zionist entity as terrorist.

According to Tasnim International News Agency, Ali Bahraini sent three separate letters to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, the UN Rapporteur for Human Rights in Palestine, Francesca Albanese, and the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial or arbitrary executions, Maurice Tidbal-Baines, expressing Iran's strong protest against the inhumane measures and policies carried out by the Zionist entity, especially the assassination of Martyr Haniyah.

The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that Hamas was a libertarian organization fighting for the freedom and independence of Palestine, and from that point of view the assassination of Hamas leaders was aimed at destroying the soul of the Palestinian people who were struggling to end the occupation and realize the right to self-determination, he said.

He added that Israel seeks to destroy the Palestinian political identity and the inherent right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state by assassinating the leaders of Palestine.

According to Article 2.1 of the International Convention, the institutions of the Zionist entity must be classified as terrorist to prevent the financing of terrorism.

The Bahraini also referred to the International Court of Justice's decision on the recognition of the Palestinians' right to self-determination, saying that any action that violates this right is illegal. He strongly criticized the assassination of the martyr Ismail Haniyeh, considered this act a flagrant violation of international law and called for his strong condemnation.

At the end of his letters, the Iranian ambassador asked UN officials to condemn this assassination decisively and clearly and document it in their future reports, and stressed the need to exert more efforts to achieve justice for the Palestinian people and hold the Israeli entity accountable for its crimes.
