BEIJING August 14. 2024 (Saba) - China's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that Beijing is keeping its nuclear capabilities at the minimum necessary for national security.
Chinese media quoted a source in the ministry commenting on former US President Donald Trump's remarks on China's nuclear arsenal as saying: "China strictly adheres to the policy of no-first-use of nuclear weapons, adheres to a nuclear strategy of self-defense, maintains its nuclear capabilities at the minimum necessary for national security, and does not participate in an arms race."
Earlier, Trump said in an interview with businessman and billionaire Elon Musk on his X network that China would "catch up with the United States or even surpass it in nuclear arsenals."
