KYIV August 13. 2024 (Saba) - Ukrainian authorities declared an air alert across the country on Tuesday morning, as the Ukrainian region of Sumy was subjected to Russian missile and drone strikes targeting infrastructure facilities.
Russian news agencies reported, citing data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation, that air raid sirens sounded at 07:19 in the capital, Kyiv, and the Vinnytsia region (southwest of Kyiv), and then the alert spread to other regions of the country.
Sumy is located on the border with the Russian Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk oblasts, and the provincial capital is about 30 km from the Russian border.
The Russian army has previously announced that it struck Ukrainian army equipment and reserves in Sumy as part of the response to the Ukrainian forces' attack on Kursk last week.
