SANA'A August 09. 2024 (Saba) — The automation of the health sector is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

This digital transformation is integral to the state’s vision, designed to improve transparency, simplify processes, and better serve beneficiaries.

It also offers an opportunity to automate primary health services, track disease locations, and address the spread of epidemics.

Over the past five years, the Ministry of Health has made substantial progress in automation, following directives from the Leader of the Revolution and the President of the Supreme Political Council.

These efforts have been focused on modernizing the Ministry’s operations, province offices, and health facilities to reduce imbalances, boost transparency, and streamline service delivery.

As part of its digital transformation, the Ministry of Public Health and Population has recently introduced eight new information systems.

This advancement supports the modernization of medical and therapeutic services and reflects the Ministry's commitment to keeping pace with technological and institutional development across all levels.

The Ministry of Public Health and Population has unveiled eight new automated information systems as part of its digital transformation efforts. These systems are designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare services.

The new systems include:

- An automated project management system for the General Administration of Technical Cooperation.
- A system for chronic diseases and mental health, integrated within the National Health Statistical Information System.
- A government financial information system for managing purchases and warehouses.
- A human resources management system.
- An automated system for health logistics supply.
- A system for the maintenance of medical equipment and standards.
- An information system for the National Center for Blood Transfusion and Research.
- A system for issuing licenses to private medical facilities.

Dr. Taha al-Mutawakel, the Minister of Public Health and Population, stated that these advancements are part of the Ministry's strategy to modernize and improve its digital infrastructure. He highlighted that the introduction of these systems will significantly enhance healthcare services, streamline health information management, and ensure the availability of accurate data for informed decision-making.

**Minister Highlights Impact of Digital Systems on Health Sector Efficiency**

Sana'a - Saba:

Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, Minister of Public Health and Population, emphasized the crucial role of digital systems in enhancing health management efficiency, improving data transparency, and elevating the quality of healthcare services. He commended the efforts of the Ministry's work teams who were instrumental in implementing these advancements.

Al-Mutawakel underscored the Ministry’s commitment to e-health by automating its operations and health facilities as part of a broader digital transformation initiative. This move aligns with the country’s strategic goal to modernize various sectors through technology.

In addition, the Ministry of Health, alongside the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, has introduced a digital transformation project, which includes an electronic portal and online service collection.

This new system allows beneficiaries to complete transactions swiftly from anywhere, at any time, with real-time updates and enhanced transparency. The system also features electronic payment options, eliminating extortion and ensuring compliance with legal fee payments.

The new electronic portal system introduced by the Ministry of Health is set to revolutionize procedures by reducing the number of required signatures and facilitating effective communication between the authority and beneficiaries. This system provides immediate feedback and sends text notifications to users about updates and changes.

The portal also improves drug control by ensuring the accuracy of submitted documents, including production certificates and safety analysis reports from drug control laboratories. This feature enhances the integrity and security of medications.

According to a Ministry of Health report obtained by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), recent efforts have focused on addressing existing issues and setting goals for advanced system integration. This includes implementing automated and interconnected systems across all Ministry sectors, creating a unified and secure database for health indicators and information, and simplifying data access and analysis.

He pointed out that the comprehensive system for automating hospitals and various health facilities has been introduced, as it includes the medical system, the storage system, and the financial system. From 2018 to 2023, the automated systems were downloaded, updated, and the staff was trained on them for 60% of the hospitals, i.e. 80 hospitals.

The National Statistical Health Information System has also been implemented in all governorates and directorates of the Republic, and training is currently underway to use it at the level of health facilities, as 1,450 cadres have been trained to use this system.

The report explained that the Ministry of Health's website has been updated to include information about it, its organizational structure, tasks, competencies, regulations, laws, news, the official spokesperson, general news, public health topics, statistics, and indicators of health resources and services.

The report indicated that several information systems have been developed to manage logistics services, oversee medical, grants, monitor the availability of health resources and services (Hermes), handle electronic correspondence (both incoming and outgoing) and electronic archiving, serve the public, implement health services pricing, support the General Administration of Technical and International Cooperation in tracking agreements, projects, and interventions within the health sector.
