SANA'A August 06. 2024 (Saba) - The Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council in Sana'a received on Tuesday a formal request from Ibb University to provide technical and advisory support for the accreditation of their "Medicine and Surgery" and "Laboratory Medicine" programs.

During the submission event, attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the caretaker government, Hussein Hazeb, the Chairman of the Academic Accreditation Council, Dr. Ahmed Al-Haboub, and the President of Ibb University, Dr. Nasr Al-Hajili, an agreement was signed.

This agreement formalized the university’s request for the Council’s assistance in ensuring the quality implementation of these programs and their qualification for special "programmatic" accreditation.

The agreement outlines the initiation of the self-evaluation process for both programs according to the standards and guidelines provided by the Accreditation Council. It obligates the university to conduct this self-evaluation within a specified timeframe while the Council provides necessary technical and advisory support to ensure quality assurance in the programs.

Minister Hazeb commended the Academic Accreditation Council’s leadership for their achievements in updating and developing academic programs, and providing essential support and self-evaluation for various medical programs across government and private universities. He highlighted the unprecedented development in higher education in Yemen, despite the challenges of siege, aggression, and limited resources.

Minister Hazeb also acknowledged the political leadership and government’s support for higher education, particularly for emerging educational institutions, and emphasized the strategic importance of Ibb province as the geographical heart of Yemen, which serves as a strategic and populous center embracing individuals from various provinces.

Dr. al-Haboub and Dr. Mohammed Daif Allah, Secretary-General of the Academic Accreditation Council, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to improving academic programs at Yemeni universities to achieve national programmatic accreditation, which is a prerequisite for international recognition.

Dr. al-Hajili, President of Ibb University, praised the Ministry of Higher Education and the Academic Accreditation Council for their efforts in supporting the university’s programs, enabling them to meet the requirements for academic accreditation and progress towards achieving international accreditation for the Medicine and Surgery program.
