SYDNEY August 05 2024 (Saba) - Australia on Monday raised the terror threat level from possible to probable on the pretext of the rise of extremist ideologies after a series of bloody attacks in the country.
"The security environment in Australia is deteriorating and becoming more volatile and unpredictable," Australia Security Intelligence Organisation Director said, noting that "more Australians are turning to extremism, and the country is facing spikes in political polarization,"
There is no evidence indicating an imminent attack, Mike Burgess added, according to Agence France-Presse, but there is an increasing threat over the next 12 months.
Australia has witnessed an increase in knife attacks in recent months.
