GAZA July 29. 2024 (Saba) - The Khan Yunis Municipality in the southern Gaza Strip has urgently appealed to the international community and donor agencies for immediate assistance to prevent a complete collapse of essential services in the city.
In a press statement, the municipality’s emergency committee revealed that more than half of its service vehicles have been destroyed due to ongoing Israeli attacks.
Out of 26 vehicles, 14 have been rendered inoperable, including essential trucks for sanitation collection, bulldozers, and excavators needed for road maintenance and debris removal.
The destruction of this equipment has severely hindered efforts to repair and maintain water, sanitation, health, and environmental systems. Khan Yunis, which has become a refuge for approximately 1.2 million displaced individuals since the onset of the conflict, is facing dire conditions with waste accumulating on roadsides and in displacement camps, and overflowing sewage exacerbating the crisis.
The municipality's emergency committee emphasized the urgent need for international intervention to provide the necessary machinery and equipment to address these critical service gaps and improve living conditions for the city's residents.
