MOSCOW July 28. 2024 (Saba) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that the goal of the Prime Minister of the Zionist enemy, Benjamin Netanyahu, to destroy Hamas in the Gaza Strip "is not realistic at all."
The Russian news agency TASS quoted Lavrov as saying: "The destruction of Hamas is an unrealistic task, it is an organization that exists, has sufficient capabilities and sufficient support, including from the Islamic world."
Commenting on the incident in the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan, the Russian foreign minister pointed out that "Moscow does not yet see any prospects for ending the bloodshed in the Middle East." He added: "Zionist retaliatory measures against the Gaza Strip are unacceptable."
Lavrov said Moscow "condemns all terrorist attacks." He expressed surprise at Zionist statements saying: "There are no civilians in Gaza, and that all of them are terrorists starting from the age of three."
The Russian minister pointed out that his country opposed the methods chosen by the occupation leadership to respond to the operation "Al-Aqsa flood". He stressed that Zionist methods violated all conceivable norms of international humanitarian law.
Lavrov continued: "I was very disturbed when the Israel and its leaders began to argue that these methods are fully justified."
He referred to what he called the double standards of the West regarding the Ukrainian conflict and the Zionist-Palestinian conflict. Those criteria, he said, "are now very clear."
Earlier in mid-December, Russia's foreign minister said it was unacceptable for Hamas Israel to use as a pretext to collectively punish the Palestinian people.
