KINSHASA July 22. 2024 (Saba) - At least 37 people were killed as a result of armed attacks by the Democratic Coalition Forces affiliated with ISIS, on several villages in Beni Province, eastern Congo, according to local authorities.
Local media quoted the authorities in Beti Province as saying: A group of armed men affiliated with the Democratic Forces of ISIS targeted several villages in Babila Bakaiko area in North Kivu Province over the course of three days, resulting in deaths and severe material damage.
It is worth noting that the security situation in eastern Democratic Congo is still “fragile” and that the Allied Democratic Forces are accused of committing massacres in which thousands of Congolese civilians were killed since the mid-nineties, and in 2019 these forces pledged allegiance to ISIS and became its branch in Central Africa.
