WASHINGTON July 21. 2024 (Saba) - Ronnie Jackson, the former doctor of former US President Donald Trump, has said that Trump is recovering as expected from being shot in the ear last week, but he pointed to intermittent bleeding and suggested that Trump may need a hearing test.
Jackson, a Republican congressman from Texas and a former military physician, explained that the bullet fired by a would-be assassin at a Trump rally on July 13 in Pennsylvania came “less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head” before striking the top of Trump’s right ear.
Five days after he miraculously survived the assassination attempt, Trump on Thursday accepted the Republican Party's nomination for president in the upcoming November 5 elections.
In what appears to be the first public description by a medical professional of Trump’s injury, a message posted on social media on Saturday from Jackson included that "the bullet's path created a two-centimeter-wide wound that extended to the cartilaginous surface of Trump's ear."
"There was significant bleeding initially, followed by noticeable swelling of the entire upper ear area. The swelling has since subsided, and the wound has begun to heal properly," he wrote.
Jackson stated that he has provided daily assessment and treatment of Trump’s wound since the shooting. He noted that no stitches were needed, but due to "the vascular nature of the ear, there is still intermittent bleeding that requires a bandage to be kept in place."
"He will undergo further evaluations, including a comprehensive hearing screening as needed," Jackson added.
