BRUSSELS July 18. 2024 (Saba) - The bloodshed in Gaza Strip must stop now, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said on Thursday.

The European agency "Euronews" quoted Der Leyen as saying, during her speech as a candidate for the presidency of the Commission, that as the occupation intensifies its deadly blows in the Strip, the people of Gaza have become unable to bear, and humanity as well.

We need an immediate and lasting ceasefire, we need to release the hostages, she added.

"We have increased our humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians to about 200 million euros in 2024, and we are working on a package to support the Palestinian Authority."
