PYONGYANG July 13. 2024 (Saba) - North Korea has vehemently denounced NATO's recent declaration, labeling it as an "illegal document" that sparks a new Cold War and global military confrontation.
The Korean Central News Agency quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesman who accused the United States and NATO of posing the greatest threat to global peace and security.
In a statement issued Saturday which criticizes US efforts to expand military alliances with NATO countries and Asian partners, including South Korea and Japan, as a serious threat to regional peace and international security, North Korea warned that NATO's "globalization" strategy, aligned with US policies, escalates the risk of global conflict and undermines international law principles.
Pyongyang vowed a robust strategic response to deter aggression and safeguard regional and global peace. The condemnation follows similar critiques from Beijing, which described NATO's stance as hostile, and Moscow, which warned of potential misuse of force under false pretexts.
The statement underscores North Korea's enduring skepticism toward US-led initiatives perceived as infringing on sovereign rights, amidst escalating geopolitical tensions.
