NEW DELHI July 09. 2024 (Saba) - Indian authorities announced on Tuesday that at least ten people were killed in the eastern India state of Bihar by lightning during severe monsoon storms that also caused torrential flooding in the country's financial capital Bombay.
AFP quoted authorities in a statement as saying that "ten people were killed last Sunday by lightning in Bihar."
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called on residents to "stay home as long as the weather continues".
Many streets in the city of Bombay on India's west coast were flooded after heavy rains lasted for hours, bringing buses and trains to a halt on several lines.
As a precautionary measure, the Bombay Municipal Council ordered the closure of schools.
He said the Indian Meteorological Service had warned of the risk of rainfall, "heavy to very heavy".
In recent years, the number of deadly floods and landslides, natural factors that experts warn is exacerbating has increased India.
