SANA'A July 08. 2024 (Saba) - Meeting chaired by the Caretaker Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Muhammad Al-Bukhaiti, and including the Assistant Undersecretary for Communications for Technical Affairs, Abdul Rahman Abu Talib, discussed today, Monday, aspects related to means of networking between Electricity and Communications Ministries .
The meeting, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Technical Affairs, Abdul-Jabbar Al-Shami, and the Deputy Director General of the General Electricity Corporation for Distribution and Technical Inspection Affairs, Muhammad Al-Shaibani, reviewed the procedures related to the advanced metering infrastructure project (AMI), represented by the smart prepayment system and meters, which is one of the latest global smart systems.
The meeting approved the formation of a technical team from the Electricity and Communications Corporation to begin conducting experiments on the data transmission and reception process before launching the service, in conjunction with keeping up with updates to cover the spread throughout the Republic of Yemen.
The Electricity Minister stressed the importance of this project as one of the necessary solutions to address the previous imbalances that caused the General Electricity Corporation to incur significant losses, and to integrate with the Ministry of Communications to overcome the obstacles and challenges facing the project.
Al-Bukhaiti stressed that the Ministry and its affiliated bodies are moving towards localizing knowledge and technology in manufacturing smart meters locally, in implementation the directives of the revolutionary and political leadership.
In turn, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications stressed the Ministry’s leadership’s keenness to overcome all difficulties and provide the necessary equipment for the success of this important national project, in addition to providing the speed required to complete the work in the required manner.
