France: Macron asks Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to stay in office
[Mon, 08 Jul 2024 22:33:52 +0300]

PARIS July 08. 2024 (Saba) - French President Emmanuel Macron asked Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to stay in office "for the sake of the country's stability" on Monday.

According to Agence France-Presse, Attal announced on Sunday evening that he would submit his resignation to President Macron, the day after legislative elections that upset the balance and expectations.

Attal confirmed that he is ready to stay in office "as long as duty requires", especially since his country will host the Olympic Games in three weeks.

The far right suffered a heavy defeat against the left-wing alliance "New Popular Front", while the presidential camp came in second.

The left-wing alliance topped the results of the second round of legislative elections in France yesterday, Sunday, with about 182 seats in the National Assembly without obtaining an absolute majority, ahead of President Emmanuel Macron's camp "Together", while the far right, which topped the first round, was satisfied with third place.

The vote did not result in any bloc obtaining an absolute majority in the National Assembly, while the leftist coalition expressed its readiness to govern.
