Netanyahu undermines ceasefire efforts amid Hamas' diplomatic initiatives: report

SANA'A July 08. 2024 (Saba) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the Occupation state continues to delay, avoid, and actively oppose a potential agreement, despite stating that any deal must achieve the specific objectives he set for the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Many observers question the feasibility of these objectives..

In recent days, there has been a notable surge in optimism towards reaching an agreement, accompanied by heightened efforts from all sides to achieve a ceasefire, as the Israeli offensive enters its tenth month.

The efforts of Qatar and Egypt, the "mediators" between Hamas and the Zionist entity, face obstacles in the way of reaching a ceasefire due to Netanyahu's procrastination and evasion to thwart any ceasefire agreement for personal reasons related to his political future in the Zionist entity after the end of the aggressive war on the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, leader of the opposition in the Zionist entity Yair Lapid called for a deal to be concluded with the Palestinian Hamas movement, which would result in stopping the war in the Gaza Strip and returning the detainees.

The Zionist enemy army radio quoted Lapid as saying “We need to stop the war, make a deal, and return the detainees.” He added “Israel” has always been against long wars.

He continued "Our army depends on reserve forces that are not suitable for this type of war."

Whenever Hamas agrees to any proposal to conclude a deal, Netanyahu comes out with statements under many names as an informed source or a political source, with the aim of disavowing and evading and removing the deal from those whose real path was to failure. While Hamas announced on Wednesday new “ideas” for ending the war and relaunching the diplomatic path, the office of Hamas reported.

Netanyahu said that “next week” Occupation will send its envoys back to Doha to revive negotiations on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, pointing out that there is “divergence between the two sides” and paving the way for Netanyahu to make subsequent statements.

Netanyahu said Sunday that any ceasefire agreement in Gaza must allow the usurping Zionist entity to resume fighting until all its goals in the war are achieved, amid expectations of the resumption of talks related to an American plan aimed at ending the war that has been ongoing for nine months.

He added the agreement must also stipulate a ban on the smuggling of weapons to Hamas across the border between Gaza and Egypt and not allow thousands of militants to return to northern Gaza.

Cairo News Channel reported on Sunday, quoting a high-ranking source, that CIA Director William Burns is expected to visit Cairo within days, along with a Zionist delegation.

The previous day, the channel reported, quoting a high-level source, that Egypt “is hosting Zionist and American delegations to discuss the outstanding points in the truce agreement in the Gaza Strip.”

Burns is expected to meet with the Qatari Prime Minister and the heads of Occupation and Egyptian intelligence on Wednesday in Doha.

The mediators have so far been able to extract only one truce from the two parties last November, which allowed the release of 80 hostages held by Hamas in exchange for the release of 240 Palestinian detainees.

The new talks come after months of failed attempts to reach a ceasefire agreement in intermittent negotiations that did not lead to anything, after Washington said that the agreement was imminent.

Militarily, the Zionist enemy army expanded its land, air and sea aggression against various areas of the Gaza Strip, committing more massacres against Palestinian families and civilians.

Palestinian media reported that the Zionist enemy forces committed three massacres against Palestinian families, including 55 martyrs and 123 wounded, bringing the toll of the aggression since October 7 to 38,153 martyrs and 87,828 wounded.

It pointed out that the Zionist enemy forces began carrying out a new invasion operation in the Gaza neighborhoods, starting from Al-Daraj and Al-Tuffah, passing through Old Gaza, all the way to Tal Al-Hawa and Al-Rimal.

The Zionist enemy's operations continued in the Shuja'iya neighborhood for the 11th day in a row, with continued artillery shelling and the bombing of residential squares east of Gaza City.

The enemy forces launched a ground operation to include parts of the Al-Tuffah and Al-Daraj neighborhoods, east of Gaza.

A large number of martyrs and wounded arrived at the National Arab Hospital in conjunction with the expansion of the ground operation, amid testimonies of the presence of a large number of Palestinian martyrs on the roads specifically in Aabiya area, “Old al-Sikka Street,” and near al-Mahatta Mosque following the sudden bombardment by artillery and warplanes.

Tens of thousands of residents were displaced from the incursion areas west of Gaza City.

The Zionist enemy continues to invade the city of Rafah for the third month, with house bombing operations continuing.

On the other hand, the Palestinian resistance in Gaza continues to crush the enemy army in al-Shuja'iyya neighborhood for the 11th day in a row.

On Sunday, the Zionist enemy army acknowledged the death of an officer and the injury of another soldier in battles with the Palestinian resistance in the southern Gaza Strip.

Enemy media reported that an officer in the engineering unit from the Sajur area in the occupied north was killed in a difficult incident in the Gaza Strip, while another soldier was seriously injured.

Since the beginning of this month, until last Thursday, the enemy army announced the death of nine officers and soldiers on the fighting fronts in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and northern occupied Palestine.

The number of enemy soldiers killed since the start of the aggression against the Gaza Strip, on October 7, has risen to 680.

Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist aggression has resulted in the martyrdom of 38,153 Palestinian citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 87,828 others, while thousands of victims remain under rubble and on the roads, where ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them.
