ASTANA July 4. 2024 (Saba) - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip and intensifying efforts to achieve peace.
In the closing statement of the meeting of the leaders of the member states, the organization expressed its "deep concern over the deterioration of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict," condemning "the fall of many civilian casualties and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip."
It warned against "the increasing use of force, violations of international law, geopolitical confrontations and conflicts, and the multiplication of risks that threaten stability in the world and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization region."
The organization's countries stressed the importance of "implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action" on the Iranian nuclear program, in accordance with the UN resolution.
They also affirmed the endeavor of interested member states "that have chosen to use civil nuclear energy" to develop cooperation "on voluntary and mutually agreed terms" in the field of research, innovation, development and implementation of civil nuclear technologies, in accordance with national legislation.
The organization announced in its statement that it adopts the initiative "On Global Unity for Just Peace, Harmony and Development", which defines the organization's intention to create conditions for strengthening international security and order, and called on the world to join it. The statement explained that "a more just and multipolar world order is emerging in the world, and opportunities for the development of countries and fair, mutually beneficial and equitable international cooperation are expanding."
