NEW YORK July 02. 2024 (Saba) - Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia has confirmed that Moscow will hold meetings during its presidency of the UN Security Council regarding Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon.

The Russian "Sputnik" news agency quoted Nebenzia as saying during a press conference on Monday that "UN Security Council discussions and consultations on the humanitarian situation in Syria are scheduled to be held on July 22, and that the speaker will be the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen."

Nebenzia continued, saying: “A briefing and consultations session on Yemen is scheduled to be held the next day, July 23, and on July 24, consultations will be held regarding Lebanon.”

It is noteworthy that the presidency of the UN Security Council was transferred to the Russian Federation on July 1.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that during this month in particular, there will be open discussions at the ministerial level on the topic of "multilateral cooperation to establish a more just, democratic and sustainable global order."

It continued: “On July 17, there will be open discussions at the ministerial level on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, and on July 19, a Security Council discussion will take place regarding United Nations cooperation with the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.”

The first two events will be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
