MOSCOW July 1. 2024 (Saba) - The Russian Ministry of Defense has said that assault units from the Veterans Detachment in the Center of the Russian Combat Group were able to seize a large Ukrainian stronghold in a suburb of the Kirov settlement, using a tunnel more than three kilometers long.

A large stronghold of the Ukrainian army on the outskirts of the Kirov settlement was captured by assault units of the Veterans Detachment of the Russian Combat Group Center, which used an underground tunnel, the Russian TASS news agency quoted the Defense Ministry as saying in a statement.

The ministry added that the soldiers of the detachment cleared and used the tunnel, which was more than three kilometers long, extending along the Seversky-Donetsk Canal, and reached the rear of the fortified stronghold, equipped with firing positions and underground shelters.

The tunnel was used to supply the offensive units with ammunition, weapons, and food.

Thanks to this sudden action, Russian forces seized the stronghold, forcing the Ukrainian forces to surrender or retreat from their positions, the Ministry added.
