TRIPOLI June 26. 2024 (Saba) - The Libyan Red Crescent Society has reported a grim discovery in Sirte, announcing the retrieval of 14 decomposed bodies from the neighborhood (720) of Giza Al-Bahria.
According to a report by Russia Today, local authorities in Sirte alerted the Red Crescent to the presence of bodies amidst ongoing demolition efforts to clear destroyed buildings in the area.
Following thorough legal procedures, teams from the Libyan Red Crescent, Sirte branch, mobilized to the site to conduct a comprehensive search.
Giza al-Bahria had suffered extensive destruction during the 2016 war, prompting a meticulous survey that uncovered the remains.
The recovery operation saw the bodies carefully numbered, placed in individual bags, and subsequently transported to Ibn Sina Hospital in Sirte. At the hospital, procedures including DNA sampling for each body are being carried out.
