GENEVA June 15. 2024 (Saba) - The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the worsening health crisis in the occupied West Bank due to attacks on medical facilities and strict restrictions imposed by the Zionist enemy forces.
The UN agency called in a press statement on Saturday for "the immediate and effective protection of civilians and the health system in the West Bank."
Since the start of the comprehensive Zionist-American aggression against the Palestinian people on the seventh of October 2023, 546 citizens have been martyred in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, including 133 children, and more than 5,200 others have been injured.
WHO lamented that the influx of infected people is increasing the burden of "emergency care in health institutions that are already under pressure" and can only operate at 70 per cent capacity due to lack of funds.
The World Health Organization recorded 480 attacks on health facilities or ambulances in the West Bank between October 7 and May 28, killing 16 people and injuring 95 others.
According to the World Health Organization, access to health care is also complicated in the West Bank by the closure of checkpoints, growing insecurity and the closure of entire villages.
The organization said that the serious financial crisis, exacerbated by the Zionist enemy's withholding of Palestinian tax funds since October 7, has led to "health workers receiving only half of their salaries almost a year ago" while "45 percent of essential medicines have run out of stock."
