SANA'A May 21. 2024 (Saba) - The Yemeni Authority for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control launched the second phase of inspection of shops selling gold jewellery.
The authority explained in a statement issued by it that the second phase of inspection of shops selling gold jewelry targets Hodeida province with the aim of monitoring , calibrating weighing devices , inspecting goldsmiths’ shops and the extent of their commitment to dealing with workshops registered with the authority.
The communique pointed out that the field visit comes within the framework of the authority’s plan for the current year to implement several regulatory programs in the field of standards and jewellery, with the aim of combating fraud in gold jewelry, protecting citizens from tampering with weights, and arresting violators.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Authority’s branch in the province, Engineer Khalil Al-Jawfi, said that during the disembarkation, gold selling scales will be calibrated, their compliance with legal standards will be verified, samples will be taken for examination and testing.
He called on the owners of gold shops and goldsmiths’ workshops to adhere to verification and calibration procedures for measuring and weighing tools on a regular basis and to apply the approved standard specifications, stressing that the necessary legal measures will be taken against those who violate the specifications and standards.
