CAIRO May 16. 2024 (Saba) - Two Egyptian security officials said that Cairo rejected an Israeli proposal regarding joint management of the Rafah crossing, which connects Gaza Strip to Sinai Peninsula.

On Thursday, Reuters news agency quoted the officials as saying that the proposal was presented to them yesterday by Shin Bet officials who visited Cairo.

According to the report, “The Israeli proposal included a mechanism to operate the transitional phase after the Israeli withdrawal from Rafah.” However, Egypt insists that the crossing should be managed only by the Palestinian authorities.”

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi added, "Israel controls the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side with the aim of tightening the siege on Gaza.

We oppose the liquidation of the Palestinian cause or the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza Strip. We do not see an international desire to end the Israeli siege and the conflict in the region.”
