JAKARTA May 13. 2024 (Saba) - The Indonesian authorities announced on Monday that the number of victims of the floods that struck the island of Sumatra, western Indonesia, had risen to 41 dead and 17 missing.

Local media quoted the Sumatra Disaster Management Agency as saying: Floods and cold lava flows on the island led to the death of 41 people, adding: Rescuers are searching for 17 people who are still missing.

Heavy rains fell on the area the day before yesterday, causing flash floods and a torrent of cold lava from Mount Marapi, a volcano located in West Sumatra.

It is worth noting that during the rainy season, Indonesia is exposed to landslides and floods in various regions, as earlier this year it witnessed floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra that claimed the lives and loss of dozens.
