DHAMAR May 08. 2024 (Saba) -Dhamar governor, Mohamed al-Bukhaiti, on Wednesday met with the regional advisor to FAO Cairo office, Mohamed Ibrahim al-Hamdi, who is currently visiting Yemen to see progress made in the KFW-funded agricultural and irrigation Somood (steadiness) Project.
The meeting discussed rate of and steps implementation, project's components, challenges faced therein, and ways to cope with such challenges.
The vital project contributes to the expansion of farming area, enhancement of agricultural production and better food security, Bukhaiti said, hailing FAO interventions.
FAO is determined to assess implementation of projects to ensure the best use of available resources, Advisor Hamdi said, noting that the $22-million Somood Project serves Jabal Asharq district (in Dhamar) and the two governorates of Abyan and Hadhramout.
The Project is designed to benefit from rainwater and floods by repairing and rehabilitating irrigation structures, maintaining valley banks, and rainwater harvest by means of waterfalls, he added.
