SANA'A March 24. 2024 (Saba) - The efforts of the Office of the General Authority for Zakat in the Capital Secretariat during the year 1444 AH resulted in achieving qualitative successes in promoting zakat work and implementing charitable and humanitarian projects in all directorates.

Indicators of achievement were evident in the framework of implementing a decentralized vision in disbursing zakat to eligible people in all directorates, by developing mechanisms for disbursing zakat in its legitimate banks, providing services, accelerating and facilitating the delivery of cash and in-kind assistance to eligible poor, needy, affected and insolvent people, and overcoming the difficulties facing them.

Zakat Authority Office achieved a qualitative leap in implementing a package of charity projects worth more than four billion, 608 million and 927 thousand riyals, improving zakat work processes, developing the collection of zakat revenues, intensifying community awareness programs, and overcoming obstacles in coordination with the local authority and directorates.

The total beneficiaries of the Zakat banks and projects implemented by the office during the past year amounted to 201,102 eligible cases in all directorates, within the framework of the matrix of projects adopted by the General Authority of Zakat in various governorates as an embodiment of religious responsibility.

Zakat projects implemented according to Sharia banks embodied the keenness to implement humanitarian and charitable projects that touch the needs of the poor, the needy, the affected, alleviate their suffering, and consolidate the principles of social solidarity, faith identity, and the pursuit of social development.

Director of the Office of the General Authority for Zakat in the secretariat, Muhammad Al-Olafi, explained to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the projects implemented by the office in 1444 AH included the third mass wedding, the decentralized disbursement of aid, emergency response, disbursement of Zakat Al-Fitr, and charitable ovens and kitchens.

He pointed to the success of the decentralized disbursement project in facilitating and accelerating the delivery of aid to those entitled to it in all fields with simplified and smooth procedures, by involving the office’s branches in the planning, implementation and evaluation process in the various directorates.

Al-Olafi pointed out that ten thousand and 633 cases benefited from the aid project amounting to one billion and 226 million and 369 thousand riyals... indicating that this project included disbursing medical aid, aid to debtors, marriage, and assistance to the poor and needy, in addition to paying the debts of insolvent people to hospitals.

He stated that Zakat al-Fitr disbursement project targeted 140,327 poor people in all districts, amounting to two billion, 806 million and 540 thousand riyals. He explained that these amounts were distributed before Eid al-Fitr last year, to bring joy to the hearts of the deserving.

He confirmed that 328 grooms in the secretariat benefited from the third group wedding project in the amount of 262 million and 400 thousand riyals, which was implemented by the office in cooperation with the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nimrani Charitable Foundation.

He highlighted the importance of this charitable project in helping young people complete half of their religion, easing the burdens on their shoulders, encouraging them to marry, as well as promoting the values of social solidarity and immunizing young people.

Also, 50,990 poor people in all the municipality’s districts benefited from the charitable ovens and kitchens project in the amount of 287 million and 880 thousand riyals, which was implemented by the Authority’s office in coordination with the Solidarity Association for Social Development.

Al-Olafi stated that this project included the establishment of charitable ovens and kitchens in each district, which produce and distribute meals to the deserving and poor families, especially in the holy month of Ramadan, and it is considered one of dozens of charitable and humanitarian projects implemented by Zakat Authority.

While the emergency response project for the poor and those affected by floods and others, aimed to provide relief aid to about 607 affected families in a number of Amanat districts in the amount of 25 million and 738 thousand riyals, which was implemented by the Zakat Office in cooperation with the Islamic Solidarity Organization.

The Director of the Zakat Office at the Secretariat appreciated the role of the Authority’s Presidency and the General Secretariat of Zakat and Tax Committees in supporting the charitable and humanitarian projects implemented by the Office during the past year.

He praised the efforts of workers in the branches of Zakat Office and their keenness to perform their duties... stressing their keenness to raise performance indicators, advance zakat work, implement a decentralized vision in disbursing zakat to those entitled to it from legitimate banks in the directorates, and translate the efforts of the Authority , enhance its role in helping the poor, the needy, the deserving, and alleviating their suffering under Current circumstances.

Al-Olafi pointed out the need for everyone to cooperate with the Authority to enhance the role of Zakat in achieving sustainable community development and the Sharia objectives in its banks, in a way that serves society and delivers Zakat to deserving groups.

He called on all those charged with the secretariat , businessmen , financiers to take the initiative to pay the zakat they owe and to support the Authority’s efforts to ensure that zakat is delivered to the deserving categories of the poor , needy and those to whom the legitimate banks apply.
