BAYDA December 11. 2023 (Saba) - A meeting in Bayda province on Monday, headed by Governor Abdullah Idris, discussed UNICEF’s interventions in the water, sanitation and environmental sanitation sectors.
The meeting, which included UNICEF Water and Sanitation Officer Patrick Agena, reviewed the projects implemented during the past period and the most important needs of service projects, which contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens.
Governor Idris praised UNICEF's support for the water projects it implemented over the past years, which contributed to alleviating the suffering of citizens as a result of the repercussions of the aggression and siege.
He stressed the importance of expanding interventions in humanitarian aspects, according to priorities and to meet the needs of society, especially drinking water, health, roads and the environment.
The Governor of Al-Bayda pointed out the challenges facing the local authority as a result of the aggression, the siege, and the increase in displacement into the governorate, which has caused pressure on water, sanitation, health, and other services, which requires intensifying humanitarian interventions from organizations.
Meanwhile, UNICEF Water and Sanitation Officer Agena pointed out that the organization seeks to strengthen the partnership with relevant government agencies, especially water, environment, health and education.
He pointed out that the visit comes within the framework of reviewing the level of implementation of projects and existing needs, stressing the importance of strengthening coordination with the local authority in a way that contributes to expanding humanitarian interventions.
The meeting was attended by the director of the local water and sanitation corporation, Abdul Ghani Al-Mukhtar, the assistant water and sanitation official, Saadi Mandai, the official of the UNICEF water department, Fawaz Al-Taj, and a number of officials.
In addition, the Governor of Al-Bayda and UNICEF representatives were briefed on the progress of work on the solar energy project to operate the wells of the local water and sanitation corporation in Radaa, as well as the project to maintain the central treatment plant in Radaa.
