CAPITALS December 11. 2023 (Saba) - The United States of America once again has aborted a draft international resolution in the UN Security Council for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, giving the Zionist enemy entity the green light to continue its crimes, massacres, and aggression and continuing the genocide and destruction of the population of the Strip.
In a subsequent development that exposes Washington and clearly reveals its participation in the barbaric aggression against Gaza and the massacres committed in it, the US Department of State said on Saturday that it agreed to sell about 14,000 tank rounds to the Zionist enemy entity, thus the enemy continues to commit more crimes against civilians in Gaza.
The Department said it informed Congress on Friday of selling 13,981 tank rounds, size120 mm and related equipment worth $106.5 million.
The sale deal comes at a time when there is an intense political debate about the Zionist aggression against Gaza, as Republicans are braking a request for President Joe Biden’s administration to approve new military aid to “Israel” and Ukraine, amid a division among Democrats over using US weapons against Palestinian civilians.
The US State Department indicated that it had concluded that there was an emergency situation to the Zionist enemy entity weapons immediately, exempting the requirements of regular review in the US Congress.
The Department stressed that the weapons stipulated the selling deal will be delivered from the US Army’s stockpile to be used by Israel “to deter regional threats and strengthen its defenses” and will not “change the basic military balance in the region.”
On Wednesday, Republican senators blocked the approval of an emergency aid package worth $106 billion for Ukraine and “Israel” because it did not include immigration reforms.
The package includes military aid to Ukraine against Russia worth about $60 billion, about $10 billion for "Israel", and also aid to Taiwan.
Diplomats believe that obstructing the issuance of international resolutions in the Security Council gives the enemy entity an opportunity to continue its crimes and aggression against the Gaza Strip.
Head of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, former Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Orabi, according to what was reported by the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) stated that the Security Council’s inability to issue a resolution to stop a war during which the enemy entity violated all international norms and laws in front of the cameras, calls into question its mission for which it was established.
Al-Orabi considered that continuing to obstruct international resolutions that would stop the fire, killing and destruction in the Gaza Strip gives the Zionist entity the opportunity to continue collective punishment, extermination and displacement of civilians, and violate international and humanitarian laws.
He added the Secretary-General of the United Nations used all his influence by activating Article 99 of the Organization’s Charter to warn of the occurrence of a humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged enclave, but the UN Security Council was unable to provide anything to save the situation on the ground and confront the severe danger threatening the collapse of the humanitarian system.
In turn, head of the Egyptian Association of the United Nations ambassador Ezzat El-Behairy said using “veto” in the Security Council to obstruct the issuance of a resolution to stop the war on the Gaza Strip is not new, pointing out that the aggression against Gaza revealed the positions of many countries that have long called for freedom and respect for human rights while it left innocent civilians and children killed in the most horrific ways inside the Strip without issuing a single ceasefire decision.
For his part, Egypt's former representative at the United Nations Commission on International Law, former Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister, Ambassador Hussein Hassouna, said that despite the failure to adopt a ceasefire resolution in the Gaza Strip, the positive thing is that 13 countries voted to stop the war, which means that there is fair voices within the international community do not accept killing, destruction, and Israel’s violation of human rights conventions and international and humanitarian laws.
Hassouna warned that the scale of loss of life inside Gaza over a short period, in addition to the humanitarian disasters that the Strip is witnessing daily a health system collapse, siege and killing of civilians, forced displacement and other crimes, threatening the security and stability of the entire Middle East.
He stressed that the crimes of the Zionist enemy entity, which include imposing collective punishment on a defenseless people through genocide, population transfer, and attempts at forced displacement, are all crimes prohibited by the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Hassouna said it is time for the UN Security Council to assume its responsibility in accordance with the United Nations Charter, and end this human tragedy for the Palestinian people and put an end to the longest occupation in the world.
This comes at a time when the international community is failing to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to intervene immediately to put an end to the US- Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people and ensure that the Zionist enemy entity is held accountable for all its crimes and gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in all Palestinian territories.
