ROME December 05. 2023 (Saba) - Food assistances in Syria will run out next January, the World Food Programme said on Tuesday, citing the lack of funding that has already led the WFP to shrink its aid in the Arab country.
The record level of humanitarian needs around the World left donors unable to provide the same level of aid, the UN program added.
Last September, WFP officials warned that the Programme needed 134 million dollars to provide food aid for the next six months and fight starvation and malnutrition suffered by 3.2 million people in Syria.
More than 12 million Syrians came under the yoke of starvation in a country where assistances had already declined in the last years, according to the WFP.
However, the program said it would continue aiding the families affected by natural disasters through smaller programs, as well as maintaining some child nutrition plans and supporting farmers' livings.
