PARIS September 25. 2023 (Saba) – French President Emmanuel Macron announced last night that he had withdrawn the French ambassador to Niger after the court in Miami decided to expel him, and that French forces would also leave this country by the end of the year.
Macron said in a televised interview that "France decided to return its ambassador" from Niger after Paris rejected this matter, and "we will put an end to our military cooperation with Niger."
He pointed out that the 1,500 French soldiers will leave "in the coming weeks and months" and that the complete withdrawal will take place "by the end of the year."
Agence France-Presse reported earlier, citing a statement from the aviation authority, that “Niger imposed a ban on French aircraft, preventing them from entering its airspace.”
It is noteworthy that a court in Niger had previously ordered the expulsion of French Ambassador Sylvain Etty from the country, based on a petition submitted by the ruling military junta and in support of its decision in this regard.
