PYONGYANG September 14. 2023 (Saba) - Pyongyang said on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted Kim Jong-un's invitation, the leader of North Korea, to visit Korea at the summit gathered between the two leaders in Russia on Wednesday.
North Korea's official news agency said that at the conclusion of the summit, "Kim Jong-un tactfully invited Putin to visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at a time he finds appropriate."
The agency confirmed that the Russian President "gladly accepted the invitation and reaffirmed his firm desire to move forward in consolidating the bonds of historical friendship between Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea."
At the conclusion of the summit held in the Far East of Russia, Kim told Putin that he was confident that Moscow would achieve a “great victory” over its enemies, praising the “heroic” Russian army.
For his part, Putin praised "the strengthening of future relations of cooperation and friendship between our two countries," and later told reporters that he saw "possibilities" for military cooperation with North Korea despite the international sanctions imposed on Pyongyang due to its nuclear and ballistic programs.
The United States expressed its "concern" about this cooperation, stressing that Russia is interested in purchasing North Korean ammunition for use by its forces in Ukraine.
The Russian President also touched on the possibility of Moscow providing Pyongyang with a helping hand in manufacturing satellites, after North Korea failed twice recently to place a military spy satellite into orbit.
