RABAT September 09. 2023 (Saba) - Morocco's Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that the toll of the violent earthquake in Morocco had risen to 1,037 deaths and 1204 casualties, including 721 critical cases.
The Ministry added in a statement that the authorities continue to mobilize all necessary human and logistical means, in addition to recruiting specialized intervention units made up of search and rescue teams, while various health structures in the affected areas are comprehensively mobilizing to provide the necessary treatments.
According to the statement, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the rescue operation had been ongoing since last night, under good conditions, with a tribute and appreciation to the population for the high sense of patriotism and great solidarity in order to overcome the earthquake's effects and support efforts.
It was a seven-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale, which struck Al Haouz Province south-west of Marrakesh, followed by aftershocks, which damaged buildings from Atlas mountain villages to the historic city of Marrakesh and caused significant material damage.
