BERLIN June 12. 2023 (Saba) - NATO air drills will begin in Germany which is the largest drills for the NATO since the end of the Cold War.
The Novosti Russian news agency quoted Alexander Kamkin, a senior researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as saying that NATO exercises are a message to Russia in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.
Kamkin pointed out that the size of the exercises is much larger than all the drills that were conducted in previous years, and is "related to the general path towards the militarization of European countries in the current circumstances."
"It can be said unequivocally that this is a step directed against Russia," Kamkin continued.
For his part, Dmitry Danilov, Head of the European Security Department at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, referred to the size of the exercises scheduled for NATO, stressing that they include "an unprecedentedly large amount of aviation equipment."
"We are talking about carrying out possible operations within the planning framework, taking into account the current Ukrainian crisis and the development of the military and political situation in the region," he said.
"It is clear in this regard that NATO's deterrence of Russia is a priority goal in the alliance's military and political planning, and therefore, according to them, it is necessary to develop appropriate scenarios in the face of the uncertain development of escalation in the Ukrainian conflict," Danilov added.
