HODEIDA June 07. 2023 (Saba) - A United Nations helicopter landed at Hodeida International Airport on Wednesday on the first test landing since the airport was stopped and decommissioned more than eight years ago as a result of being bombed by the aggression coalition.
The Director General of Hodeida Airport, Ahmed Tarish, and his Deputy Technical Affairs, Engineer MuhyAl-Din Al-Demeshqi, explained that a helicopter coming from Djibouti landed at Hodeida airport and then departed towards the Safer vessel position at the port of Ras Issa within its itinerary.
They stressed the importance of the United Nations and the Hodeida Agreement Support Team playing a positive role during this phase to support the rehabilitation and maintenance of the damage suffered by the airport as a result of its targeting by the aggression warplane to ensure its return to service to alleviate the suffering of patients and travellers.
During the landing of the plane, in the presence of a number of governorate agents and security and military leaders, a team from the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeida Agreement (UNMHA) confirmed that the aircraft would operate within the framework of the expert and maintenance team's logistical functions and arrangements to secure and rescue the Safer oil reservoir.
Hodeida International Airport was almost completely destroyed by the Coalition of Aggression as part of its war and blockade of the Yemeni people, while the plane that landed today is merely a helicopter.
