Minister of Transport appreciates Supervisory & International Committee efforts to save environment in Red Sea
[01/June/2023]

SANA'A June 01. 2023 (Saba) - The Minister of Transport, Abdulwahab Yahya Al-Durra, paid tribute to the supervisory committee's efforts to implement the plan to replace the floating reservoir (Safer) and the United Nations efforts that led to the effective commencement of the plan to save the Red Sea marine environment and the countries overlooking it from a major disaster in the event of an oil spill from the floating reservoir.
During his meeting on Thursday with Sana'a, the representative of the World Food Programme of Yemen, Richard Ragan, and representatives of the Office of the United Nations Envoy to Yemen and humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen, the Minister of Transport commended the three-year efforts of the Supervisory and International Commission until the purchase of the ship to which oil would be withdrawn from the old reservoir Safer, currently in DJibouti.
"Today we are in the first step of the last phase in order to save the floating reservoir and prevent an environmental catastrophe that could be the largest in history," he said.
The Minister stressed the need to adhere to the plan and not delay, stressing that the plan should include the implementation of the replacement ship's permanent maintenance programme so that the problem would not be repeated again.
He noted the need for all parties to fulfil their duties in all humanity and impartiality so that our country can overcome the effects of the nine-year-old aggression and economic blockade.

In turn, the representative of the World Food Programme stressed the importance of humanitarian action and fruitful joint cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and its bodies and institutions to meet the needs of the Yemeni people.
In the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Abdullah al-Ansi, the meeting discussed the areas of bilateral cooperation between the two sides and the mechanism for its development during the next phase.
