SANA'A April 05. 2023 (Saba) - Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor affirmed that the aggression coalition's use of aggression remnants in its battle against Yemen exacerbated the size of this big problem facing the Yemeni people.
During his participation on Tuesday in the event held by the National Committee for Mine Action and the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) with the support of UNICEF, on the occasion of the International Day for Awareness of the Risks of aggression remnants, the Prime Minister expressed his thanks to the Executive Centre, the Ministry of Defense and UNICEF for organizing this event to alert the dangers of these remnants.
He also expressed his thanks to UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the rest of the United Nations organizations for helping the Yemeni people and alleviating their pain in light of the end of the eighth year of aggression and the entry into the ninth year.
He pointed out that the industrialized countries that produce aggression remnants in order to obtain money are the real cause of killing people, pointing out that while these countries manufacture aggression remnants, they also manufacture detectors and devices for treating victims, which explains the purely physical dimension of these countries and the lack of concerned about its effects on people's lives.
Dr. Bin Habtoor called on the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations to put more pressure on the countries of aggression to introduce aggression remnants detection devices that have been held for three years in Djibouti and donated by some organizations.
He expressed appreciation to all those interacting with the issue of aggression remnants from the national side and from international humanitarian organizations, and everyone's solidarity in this aspect, which draws everyone's attention to the catastrophic effects of remnants on people's lives.
At the event, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Defense and Security Affairs Lieutenant General Jalal Al-Ruwaishan, Minister of Planning Abdulaziz Al-Kumaim and Minister of Human Rights Ali Al-Dailami, Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Ali Al-Mushki, Attorney General Judge Abbas Al-Jarafi, Director of the Prime Minister’s Office Taha Al-Sufyani, Governor of Hadramout Luqman Baras, and Assistant Minister of Defense Major General Ali al-Kuhlani, the head of the military committee, Major General Yahya al-Razami, and the director of the Military Intelligence Department, Brigadier General Ali Abu Haliqa, The Deputy Executive Director of the Mine Action Center, Muhammad Al-Abdali, pointed out the importance of the International Day for Awareness of the dangers of remnants of aggression, especially as the Yemeni people suffer from aggression, siege and remnants of war.
He pointed out that there are thousands of children and civilians victims in various regions of Yemen as a result of war remnants, which affected their lives, living and social conditions, and caused displacement and displacement of the population of many regions.
He stressed that Yemen is classified as one of the countries most affected by remnants of war since March 26, 2015, as the aggression used remnants and many internationally prohibited weapons, which negatively affected the lives of the population in local communities, and led to casualties in various Yemeni regions, and doubled the suffering on various levels.
Al-Abdali stressed the importance of community awareness, being the most prominent activity in many areas that the clearance teams cannot reach due to the wide area of the affected areas and the lack of capabilities. He expressed the center's aspiration to continue the partnership with the United Nations Development Program and to work together to assess the current situation of the center from all sides and coming up with professional solutions that guarantee the continuity of the activities of removing the remnants of war and building capacities, and ending with the achievement of human security and safety as a main objective of the demining program.
Al-Abdali pointed out that the Executive Center, despite the challenges, was able to implement many activities to purify polluted areas, especially those with high impacts. Main and secondary roads were also cleared and opened, and cooperation with official institutions.
He said, "The International Day for Aggression remnants Risk Awareness is an important occasion to remind the world of the suffering of the Yemeni people because of remnants of war, and their spread in many Yemeni regions and governorates, and the continued displacement of thousands of citizens for this reason."
The Deputy Director of the Center appealed to the international community, governments and international organizations to provide support and advocacy to the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) so that it can intervene and implement the humanitarian response as required and commensurate with the size of the problem.
He also called on the United Nations to continue providing support and advocacy to the center so that it can continue its activities in marking, cleansing, raising awareness, and assisting victims, in order to secure the land, preserve the lives of citizens, and ensure the return of the displaced and their normal and daily lives in safety and security.
For his part, the head of the International Cooperation Department of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Ali Al-Kuhlani, pointed out the importance of raising awareness of the dangers of aggression remnants especially in light of the aggression and siege that Yemen is exposed to.
While the UNICEF Chargé d'Affaires in Yemen and the Red Cross Coordinator in Yemen stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination for the success of awareness campaigns on the dangers of remnants of war at this stage that Yemen is going through, and the continued support for the activities of the Yemen Executive Mine Action Center.
They praised the efforts made by the center in raising awareness among members of society about the dangers of aggression remnants and explosives, which have claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people and children, pointing out the importance of expanding the circle of awareness activities and targeting the most affected districts in this aspect.
During the event, a statement was presented about the statistics and achievements of Executive Center for Field Mine Action from 2015 AD until March 2023 AD.. indicating that, according to the technical survey, an area of (10,021,160) square meters was marked for (272) fields contaminated with remnants of war, and an area of (20,493,227) square meters was cleared.
The statement indicated that the center collected and removed (563,140) remnants of various wars, stressing that the awareness-raising teams on the dangers of remnants of war in the center carried out awareness activities in (13,715) villages and locations in the governorates (Ibb - Bayda - Jawf - Hodeidah - Al-Dhalea - Al-Mahweet - Taiz - Hajjah - Raymah - Sa'ada - Marib), which benefited four million and 861 thousand and 863 people from all groups and segments of society.
The statement revealed that the center documented, from the beginning of the year 2022 AD until the end of March 2023 AD, the fall of 814 victims as a result of the remnants of war, including 272 martyrs and 542 injured, in addition to providing medical support to 24 injured as a result of the remnants of war.
At the end of the event, field workers from the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) were honored, and participants in raising awareness of the dangers of aggression remnants.
An exhibition of models of missiles and aggression remnants that were discovered was opened, as well as a photo exhibition on the activities and work of the Yemen Executive Mine Action Center.
