DHAMAR February 04. 2023 (Saba) - The branch of the General Authority for Antiquities, Museums and Manuscripts in Dhamar province received two artifacts that were found by a citizen while plowing agricultural land in Abaser village in Ans district.
The archaeological finds found by Ahmed Ali Al-Abasri consist of a statue of an ibex animal carved on white marble "alabaster" with a length of 22.5 cm, a height of 27 cm, and a width of 11.5 cm, dating back to between the fifth and sixth centuries BC, and a Himyarite copper ring with letters carved on it. Al-Musnad calligraphy, which bears the name "Fahd Dhu Tutu", dates back to the first century BC.
During the handover, Dhamar governor, Muhammad al-Bukhaiti, praised the patriotism and keenness shown by the young man, Ahmed al-Abasri, to hand over the two pieces to the competent authority, out of his keenness to preserve the antiquities, as they are a global human heritage.
Al-Bukhaiti pointed to the aggressive plans to destroy the archaeological sites and historical monuments of Yemen, including the aerial bombardment of the Dhamar Regional Museum by the warplanes, which led to the destruction of its contents.
