Al-Murtada: Aggression mercenaries thwarted international efforts to make prisoners' swap agreement successful

SANA'A, Sep. 17 (Saba) - The head of the National Committee for Prisoners Affairs, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, confirmed Saturday that since the beginning of the United Nations Truce, the prisoners file has been virtually frozen, both domestically and internationally.

Al-Murtada told (Saba)" That about six months ago precisely from the beginning of the first truce under the auspices of the United Nations, with great sadness, we witnessed an almost complete stalemate in the prisoners file on both the domestic and international levels, at a time when we had hoped that the armistice period would see a complete breakthrough in this humanitarian file."

He added: "Although we signed an agreement with the parties of the forces of aggression and their mercenaries in March this year, stipulating that an exchange of more than 2,200 prisoners from both sides should take place but for intransigence and obstruction of the aggression mercenaries prevented its execution.

Al-Murtada stressed that the mercenaries of aggression had sabotaged all efforts made by the United Nations to bring about the success of the agreement, the latest of which was the holding of a round of negotiations a month earlier in the Jordanian capital, Aman, but that round of negotiations had failed because of the intransigence of the mercenaries of aggression in Marib and their lack of commitment to implement the agreement.

In addition to thwarting the implementation of the United Nations agreement, the mercenaries of aggression had also halted all locally agreed exchanges.

He said: "What the forces of aggression are currently seeking is an attempt to expel Saudi prisoners of war and a number of the leaders of mercenaries we have, in exchange for a group of our captors, and the postponement of the rest of the agreement for another phase, in clear circumvention of the agreement but we refused that."

Al-Murtada pointed out that the National Committee assured the United Nations of its readiness to the fully implement of the agreement and rejected any selectivity.
