SANAA, April. 11 (Saba) - Many people in Yemen used alternative medicine as a means of preventing the emerging coronavirus, which continues to claim thousands of lives worldwide.
According to those interested, the use of alternative medicine by society in Yemen to protect its members from this pandemic and other epidemics and diseases that have spread in the country, due to the aggression and the blockade, is a natural, healthy and familiar phenomenon in a society that leaves no way to protect itself except its methods, especially after some of them have survived and inherited their use as a kind of traditional medicine through generations.
According to historical evidence, Yemen has had many bitter experiences with diseases and epidemics, but the last five years of aggression and the US Saudi-led blockade have been the most deadly for Yemenis as a result of the destruction of health infrastructure and its decommissioning.
Yemen is still struggling alone in an open war with the cholera epidemic, which has claimed nearly 3,200 lives since the first wave of the epidemic began in 2017, in addition to nearly 1.5 million cases and suspicions, according to international organizations and authorities.
It is not only cholera that claims the lives of Yemenis, and besides diphtheria, "al-Khanaq", the flu and others, malnutrition has emerged, making the natural herb a haven for Yemenis to prevent these diseases.
The continuation of the aggression and blockade and the failure of international organizations to carry out their duty and low living conditions, due to the loss of their sources of income by State officials and families, particularly after the circumvention of the Central Bank of Yemen and the insistence on transferring its operations to Aden province by the forces of aggression and its mercenaries, have made a large proportion of Yemenis not easy prey to epidemics, viral and seasonal diseases and even the creation of the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.
There are many "mixtures" that have been prepared to deal with this pandemic by al-Attarin, along with garlic, turmeric, honey, ginger, male garlic and black bean. Mohammed Abdul Raqib, a worker at the perfumery and spice shop in Sanaa, told Saba.
Since the beginning of March, attar shops have seen a growing demand for many items that people read about on the Internet and social media, such as "haltate", "al-Mor", "apple cider vinegar" and "semsem", and other spices such as cinnamon, anise, peppers and cumin.
Abdul Jabbar Saeed, standing next to his family inside a popular spice shop in Sana'a, admits that he came to buy some items believed to be related to the fight against the coronavirus, such as garlic and some spices suggested to him by his wife after reading it as a piece of information in a WhatsApp collection.
According to Bassem Al Harazi mother, who finished shopping at a spice shop in Sana'a, male garlic and apple cider vinegar, in addition to ginger, honey, black grain, cumin, anise and chamomile flower, are protected from many diseases, which are 100 percent natural substances and have had a great impact on her protection and family members from many viruses and diseases that have ravaged Yemen recently, especially cholera, so she does not rule out their usefulness in the face of the Corona pandemic, she said.
Abdullah al-Matari, who was shopping with his two children and his wife at the Al-Ma'tara market in the historic city of Sana'a, does not rule out the importance of attar materials in achieving healing and facing the danger of Corona, who admits that he and his children have never been hospitalized and have never used any medicines in his life.
Essam Al-Nashiri, an expert on ittar and natural herbs, confirmed that there are some natural substances and herbs useful for strengthening immunity and used in the preparation of some medicines, as well as working on the primary preventive control of the body of many diseases and does not need to recommend and is known scientifically and healthily, such as the male garlic and honey mentioned in the Qur'an, dried figs, lemon peel, pomegranate and pumpkin.
He pointed to the effectiveness of some solutions and herbal substances, in the fight against infections that affect the pharynx, including lemon peel powder, haltate and natural vinegar, which also help in overcoming difficulty breathing and filtering the lungs.
Regardless of the effectiveness and efficacy of these attar materials in the face of the Coronavirus, for which specialists in the world have not yet found effective treatment, it remains important to note that the use of attar materials by customers, workers and experts in the attar market does not harm.
